Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find a reliable source for Military Patches in Ireland and I’m struggling to find a good option. I’m putting together a few things at the moment, including a display for my collection, some kit for an airsoft group I play with, and a set of commemorative patches for a veterans’ association event, and I’d like them to look properly made rather than cheap.

Most of what I’ve found online is either mass-produced stuff shipped from overseas with long delivery times, or stock designs that can’t be changed. I’d much prefer something made to order from a supplier based in Ireland or the UK, so I’m not waiting weeks and paying customs charges.

If anyone has been through this, I’d love some advice on a few things:

Are embroidered or woven patches better for fine detail like small text and crests?

Which backing is best for field use: sew-on, Velcro (hook and loop), or iron-on?

Is it worth paying extra for merrowed borders, and does it make a real difference to how long the patch lasts?

What minimum order quantities should I expect for a small group order?

Can a supplier work from a rough sketch or an old photo of a unit crest, or do I need a clean vector file?

How long should I realistically allow from approving the design to delivery?

Any legal or etiquette issues I should know about with replica insignia, such as official Defence Forces designs versus unofficial or commemorative ones?

I’d also love recommendations for reliable makers in Ireland, and any warnings about things to avoid. Photos of your own finished patches would be great too, as they’d help me work out what’s realistic.

Thanks in advance, all advice, good or bad, is welcome!
