I’ve been considering buying in a gated complex in Phuket instead of a standalone property. I want something easy to manage from abroad, possibly for holiday rentals. Are residential complexes reliable there?

Yes, and they’re quite popular for foreigners. I invested in one of the newerresidential complexes in Phuket near Bang Tao Beach. The big advantage is that everything’s handled — pool cleaning, security, even rental management if you want. My unit is a 1-bedroom with a rooftop terrace, fully furnished, and the complex has a gym, café, and shuttle to the beach. I paid around $140K. It’s been rented about 70% of the year through their in-house team. You don’t have to worry about utilities or maintenance — they handle it all. Just be sure to read the service agreement and understand monthly fees. Some charge more than others. For part-time use or pure investment, this model works well. Bonus: it’s easier to resell since these types of units are in demand by other foreign buyers.
