U4GM Covers the POE 2 Christmas Farming Story (5 อ่าน)

30 มิ.ย. 2569 15:36

Path of Exile 2 players have been talking about the Vaal Temple mess for weeks, and if you were chasing loot efficiency, you probably saw the same pattern over and over again. The whole thing became a race for POE 2 Currency, and once that happens, people stop asking whether a strategy is healthy and start asking how fast they can run it before it gets hit.

A Holiday Spoiler Nobody Wanted

Mark Roberts, co-director and lead designer on Path of Exile 2, did not sound like a man trying to smooth anything over. In a recent chat with Zizaran, he said the Vaal Temple farming problem genuinely wrecked his Christmas. Not in a joking way either. It landed right in the middle of the holiday break, when the team should have been offline, or at least close to it, and instead they were dealing with exploits, hotfixes, and a league economy that was starting to wobble.

That timing made the whole thing sting more. Fate of the Vaal launched straight into the holiday window, which meant the player surge hit while GGG had fewer hands on deck. The Temple snaking route spread quickly because the returns were too good to ignore. People were chaining runs, testing routes, and squeezing out absurd value. By the time the studio could move, the damage was already done. You could feel it in the market, and if you were playing normally, it was hard not to notice.

Why Roberts Sounds So Done With It

Roberts did not hide how he feels about the setup now. He basically said the joy of crushing the Temple is hard to beat, and he does not care if the fix lands mid-league. That is not exactly the polished answer a PR team would draft, but it does sound like a developer who spent his holiday watching one problem keep coming back. He also made it clear he is not trying to ruin the content for everyone. The point, as he framed it, is containment. Stop the abuse. Keep the rest of it alive.

That is where the conversation gets more interesting for players. When a farm becomes so strong that it crowds out everything else, the issue is not just balance. It changes how people think about the game. Players who would normally split time between mapping, bossing, and other endgame loops start funneling into whatever pays best. It is not always because they love that content. Often, it is because they feel they have to. And once that starts, the economy bends around it fast. Prices shift. Drop values feel off. Even casual traders can tell something is up.

The Exploit Kept Coming Back

Then came the part that almost sounds scripted, even though it was not. While Roberts was still talking about the Temple, Zizaran said players had already found another way to break it. Roberts pushed back at first. He thought it might be overstated. Then GGG's own team confirmed there was a T1 issue that needed attention right after the interview. Roberts and Jonathan Rogers reportedly laughed about it, because at that point what else can you do? It is frustrating, sure. But it is also kind of absurd when the same exploit keeps resurfacing just as you are explaining why it has to be fixed.

For a lot of the community, that is the real story here. Not just that one farming method was too strong, but that every time it gets touched, someone finds another angle. That is exhausting for developers and, honestly, boring for everyone else. Most players do not want the economy built around a single loop that spits out value faster than anything else. They want options. They want different ways to progress without feeling like fools for not doing the one broken thing. That is why the nerfs have been met with a lot of support, even from people who never touched the strategy themselves.

Final Thoughts

The Vaal Temple situation has become one of those live-service headaches that never really stays buried. Roberts sounds fed up, and maybe a little scarred by the timing of it all, but his reaction also tells you how serious the problem was. When a farm can hijack a league, eat a holiday, and keep coming back after every fix, stronger action starts to look less like punishment and more like basic upkeep. If you are following where the next round of changes might land, keep an eye on the market, because the ripple effects will show up long before the patch notes do, especially once players start pricing in the next move for POE 2 Exalted Orbs.
