Zenith and USM have once again joined forces to present a mirrored DEFY chronograph for TimeForArt.



This timepiece features a miniature USM ball joint on the seconds hand and is powered by the legendary high-frequency El Primero 400 movement.

Following their initial collaboration, Zenith and USM have partnered again to create a unique timepiece for TimeForArt, a charity auction organized by the Swiss Institute. The new DEFY Chronograph USM – TimeForArt Unique Piece builds upon the architectural design concept of their first collaboration, reinterpreting the angular DEFY watch from 1969 with a striking, fully mirror-polished dial. This reflective surface interacts constantly with its surroundings, allowing the watch's appearance to shift with changes in light, movement, and the architectural environment.

The dial features a mirrored finish, with three overlapping sapphire crystal chronograph counters accented in USM’s signature golden yellow, pure orange, green, and gentian blue—marking the first time all four of USM’s classic colors have been brought together on a single dial. The rest of the watch retains the compact proportions and angular design language of the previous collaboration, including a 37mm stainless steel case, an octagonal silhouette, a 14-sided bezel, and a stainless steel "ladder" bracelet.

A miniature version of the iconic USM Haller ball joint is cleverly integrated into the tip of the gentian blue chronograph seconds hand, establishing a subtle connection between the timepiece and the furniture system. The watch is powered by Zenith’s El Primero 400 automatic column-wheel chronograph movement, operating at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour and offering a 55-hour power reserve.

Going beyond the watch launch itself, USM has designed a unique mirrored Haller sideboard to accompany the timepiece. The design concept behind this piece of furniture is to create a functional display space for watch collectors; its glass top showcases the primary collection, while a lockable drawer below offers additional storage, bringing a modular design approach to the world of horology.

The DEFY Chronograph USM – TimeForArt special edition watch will be auctioned at Phillips in New York on December 5, 2026, at 3:00 PM (EST). As a unique timepiece created specifically for the auction, it carries no official retail price; however, all proceeds will go toward supporting the Swiss Cultural Association’s exhibitions, educational programs, and community initiatives.
