I used to lose a lot of Scrabble games stuck with awkward tiles until I learned the two-letter words. They let you play alongside another word, so one small play can score on two words at once.

The ones worth memorising first:

QI and QAT (Q with no U!)

ZA (Z for 11 points with just an A)

XI, XU and OX (easy X dumps)

JO and KA

Playing all seven tiles also gets you a 50-point bonus, so it's always worth checking for a 7-letter word before settling for a small play.

I made a list of all the two-letter words grouped by the tile you're stuck with:

And when I'm really stuck, I type my rack into a word finder to see what's possible (use ? for a blank tile):

Which two-letter word has won you the most games?
