How to Set Up a Kubb Field (6 อ่าน)

26 ต.ค. 2569 09:30

A standard kubb field is a rectangle:

- **Size (tournament):** 5 m × 8 m (about 16 ft × 26 ft)

- **Backyard adaptation:** You can scale down slightly if space is limited.

Basic layout:

1. Mark the four corners of the rectangle with stakes.

2. Place the **King** in the center of the field.

3. On each baseline, evenly space **5 kubbs** (the baseline kubbs).

4. Players stand behind their own baseline to throw.

Adjust the field size to match your space and players. For kids or small yards, a 3×6 m (10×20 ft) field can work well.

## Basic Kubb Rules: How to Play

There are regional variations, but these rules describe the most common way to play.

### Objective

Knock down all of your opponent’s kubbs and then topple the King to win.

Important: Knocking over the King too early (before all field kubbs and baseline kubbs are down) usually means you lose instantly.

### Teams

- 2 teams (Team A and Team B)

- Each team: 1–6 players (most common: 2–4 players per side)

### Game Flow

1. **Determine starting team**

- Each team throws one baton at the King from their baseline.

- The closest throw without hitting the King goes first.

2. **Team A’s first turn**

- Stands behind their baseline.

- Throws all 6 batons at Team B’s baseline kubbs.

- Batons must be thrown underhand, holding them by one end, with no helicopter/spinning throws (they should rotate end-over-end, not sideways).

3. **Field Kubbs Setup**

- Any kubbs that Team A knocks down are thrown by Team B into Team A’s half of the field.

- Team A then stands those kubbs upright where they landed. These are called **field kubbs**.

4. **Team B’s turn**

- Before attacking baseline kubbs, Team B must first knock down all field kubbs in Team A’s half.

- Once all field kubbs are down, any remaining batons can be thrown at baseline kubbs.

5. **Subsequent rounds**

- Each turn, knocked-down kubbs are thrown into the opposite half and set up as field kubbs.

- The team with **field kubbs in their half** is usually allowed to move their throw line forward to the nearest standing field kubb, which gives them an advantage.

6. **Winning the game**

- When a team has knocked down:

- all of the opponent’s field kubbs, and

- all baseline kubbs,

- they can then aim for the King.

- The King must be knocked down with a baton from behind the team’s baseline (or last allowed throw line, depending on house rules).

- First team to topple the King legally wins.

- If the King is knocked down at any earlier time, that team loses immediately.

## Tips for Playing Kubb Well

- **Aim low** – Target the base of the kubb to increase your chance of a clean knockdown.

- **Control rotation** – Throw batons with a gentle end-over-end spin, not like a helicopter.

- **Prioritize field kubbs** – Field kubbs can quickly put you at a disadvantage if left standing.

- **Use the forward throw line** – When you gain the right to throw from a field kubb line, use it to apply pressure and shorten your throws.

- **Communicate as a team** – Decide who focuses on closer targets vs. baseline kubbs.

## Caring for Your Kubb Set

Proper care will extend the life of your kubb set significantly.

### Storage

- Keep the set **indoors** or in a dry shed/garage.

- Avoid long-term exposure to direct sunlight or rain.

- Use the provided bag or a storage box to keep pieces together.

### Cleaning

- Wipe dirt and grass off with a **damp cloth**.

- Let the pieces dry completely before storing to avoid mold and warping.

### Maintenance

- Lightly sand any rough spots with fine-grit sandpaper.

- Apply a thin coat of wood oil or outdoor-safe sealant once or twice a year if you play often.

- Check regularly for cracks or splinters, especially if kids are playing.

## Kubb Set FAQs

### What is a standard kubb set size?

A regulation set typically uses:

- King: ~30 cm tall, 9×9 cm base

- Kubbs: ~15 cm tall, 7×7 cm base

- Batons: ~30 cm long, 3–4 cm diameter

Backyard sets may be slightly smaller and lighter, but the proportions are similar.
