The Technics EAH-AZ100 is the successor to the 2023 EAH-AZ80, and reviewers report that the improvements are genuine. Per Stereo Guide, the main upgrades include new drivers, better noise cancelling, increased battery life, and head tracking, showing clear advancement over the AZ80, in particular in sound quality and spatial effects. T3 also notes that Technics has improved nearly every aspect of the already strong AZ80. The standout feature is the magnetic fluid driver, which reviewers attribute to the large, detailed sound. The EAH-AZ100 is designed for Dolby Atmos with head tracking, and the smartphone app offers an 8-band equaliser and a direct mode for unfiltered playback. Additional features are adaptive noise cancelling, transparency mode, Voice Focus AI for calls, multipoint connectivity, and Bluetooth LE, allowing for possible Auracast support in the future. One review mentions the charging case is made of aluminium. A retailer lists around 10 hours of playback with noise cancelling active, though actual battery life depends on settings. There are minor compromises. The earbuds are provided with five eartip sizes (seven on the AZ80, as Digital Trends). The noise cancelling can be improved upon by rivals, says TechRadar, and calls were sometimes patchy, as TechGearLab. They launched at $299 in the US, 259 in the UK and AU$499 in Australia, and a Japanese price comparison website listed their lowest price as 30,445 for the champagne gold model. Is it a big upgrade? If you already have the AZ80, there are improvements but not major it's worth weighing up whether the sound quality and head tracking are compelling reasons to upgrade. If you are purchasing your first premium set, the AZ100 is a powerful option. Check the latest price, as deals vary, and purchase from an authorised seller.
